This delightfully hand crafted solid Tasmanian Huon Pine Card Box will sit well in any place in the house. Fully lined, it makes a great key box on the hall table, or a place to keep that special keepsake.
Huon pine is a rain forest timber unique to Tasmania and due to an essential natural oil in the wood it has a unique one-of-a-kind smell which also makes it highly resistant to fungal and insect attack. Huon Pine ranges from almost white in colour to light cream and yellowish with fine and closely spaced annual growth rings, and sometimes small black "birds eye" markings.
- Box dimensions: 14cm long x 10 cm wide x 7cm tall.
- Full length piano hinge used for attaching the lid to the box body with it's own specially designed back rest which gives strength and stability.
Beautifully crafted by Craig, apprenticed under his late father Bruce for many years, Craig demonstrates his keen eye for Tasmanian woodcraft, lovingly hand finishing each box to perfection, all from his home-based Launceston workshop.
Whilst Craig has a modern workshop with all the newer woodworking tools at the end of the day he believes nothing beats the finish of good old fashion "elbow Grease." In other words, the timber products he makes are all hand finished.
The Huon Pine used in this product was sustainably recovered from the Tasmanian forest floor under a license granted by the Tasmanian government and allocated to Millers. This wood comes from remnants of old piners or naturally fallen trees.
