The Beauty of Tasmanian Myrtle is a prominent species in the cool temperate rainforests of Tasmania. In wet eucalypt forests, it grows as an understory tree, while in higher altitudes, it appears as a small shrub, thriving in highly organic soils. Depending on rainfall and humidity, Myrtle can grow fairly quickly and regenerate continuously, with forests housing Myrtle trees from 1 to 500 years old.
Craig, apprenticed under his later father Bruce for many years, channels his expertise into creating exquisite woodcraft. Each jewellery box is meticulously hand-finished in his Launceston workshop.
Despite having a modern workshop equipped with the latest woodworking tools, Craig believes that nothing compares to the finish achieved through traditional hand-finishing techniques.
Craig is committed to quality, selecting only the finest grade, sustainably sourced Tasmanian timber. Craig carefully thicknesses each board and color-matches the components to create the best combination for each box. Over the years, Craig has cultivated relationships with a select group of reputable millers and timber merchants in Tasmania.
Bruce's Boxes are made from solid timber, offering a tactile and visual richness that surpasses glossy veneers. Each box features full-length piano hinges for stability and strength, with a specially designed back rest.
