Beautifully handcrafted from Tasmanian Sassafras this box is lined with black suede and features dividers to easily find what you are looking for.

Every piece of timber has been carefully selected to create the most beautiful design for the finished product. Of all Tasmanian timbers, sassafras has the most variable and dynamic colouring. It has amazing grain variation. It is a beautiful and pale creamy grey to white normally, but can be streaked with rich browns and black heart.

In Tasmania, Sassafras is found in most areas of the state, except for drier areas of the east coast. It is common on both the eastern and western mountain ranges. Craig demonstrates his keen eye for Tasmanian woodcraft, lovingly hand finishing each box to perfection, all in his home-based Launceston workshop.
Craig apprenticed under his late father Bruce for many years, has a modern workshop with all the newer woodworking tools, but at the end of the day nothing beats the finish of good old fashion 'elbow Grease'. In other words, the timber products he makes are all hand finished. Craig firmly believes gaining a quality finish is as much about feel as sight.
Craig knows his timbers and only purchases select grade material sustainably sourced in Tasmania for his boxes. The timbers arrive seasoned and ready to be machined to dimension. Craig thicknesses each board and then invests extra time to colour match each component to provide the best combination for each box.
Over the years Craig has built relationships with a small number of well-respected millers and timber merchants in Tasmania and always makes sure to source his timber sustainably. Bruce's Boxes are fine solid timber products. Unlike glossy thin veneers there is no substitute for the feel, smell and look of real solid timber. Full length piano hinges are used for attaching the lids to the box bodies with their own specially designed back rest which gives great stability and strength.
